Cherry, slicing, and paste tomatoes all come in bush and vining varieties. Bush tomatoes are good for containers, while vining tomatoes are best for canning and trellising.
All tomatoes need full sun, rich soil, and consistent moisture. Add lots of compost to their soil and mulch them to keep the soil moist.
Space vining tomatoes 18"-24" apart if you're going to prune them (48" if not). Space bush tomatoes 12" apart.
Add plenty of compost to the soil and plant tomatoes almost up to the first leaves. This spurs new root growth. Water them in very well!
Harvest tomatoes when they're supple and come off the vine easily. From sowing seeds, this can take 60-100 days depending on the variety!
